<br/><br/> 2-Propoxy-5-methylbenzoic acid has been synthesized by two routes from p-cresotinic acid. Synthesis of the ethyl ester of p-cresotinic acid, propylation to the ether, and subsequent hydrolysis of the ester proved to be the preferred route.
